Mickey interviews John Hackleman, founder of The Pit, a popular MMA school teaching Hawaiian Kempo. John Hackleman started The Pit in 1985 as a means to teach a more straight forward, no-nonsense approach to martial arts.
Today The Pit is a professional MMA association headquartered in California with many training camps in the USA. Prominent fighters from The Pit include Chuck Liddell, Glover Teixeira, Court McGee, Ramsey Nijem, Antonio Banuelos and Scott Lightly.
Hawaiian Kempo (a.k.a. Kajukenbo) blends kempo, karate, judo, jiu-jitsu, boxing and wrestling. The Pit places a heavy emphasis on “CrossPitâ€: The Pit’s specialty strength and conditioning fitness program developed in the vein of CrossFit.
